Frequently Asked Questions

How our scores work, our independence policy, and how to get involved.

How are your scores calculated?

Each tool is scored on four equally-weighted dimensions: features (what it can do), pricing (value for money), ease of use (learning curve and UX), and reliability (uptime, output quality consistency). Scores are researched from public data, documentation, and user reports — dated October 2026.

Do tools pay for better rankings?

No. TechLens accepts no payment for placement, scores, or reviews. Our revenue comes from QisuanCloud's GPU and content services, advertised separately. A tool cannot buy its rating.

How often is data updated?

We re-verify pricing and major features quarterly, and sooner when a vendor announces significant changes. Every tool page shows its last-updated date.

How can I submit a tool for review?

Use our submission form. We review every serious submission and typically publish scores within two weeks for tools that meet our bar.

Which free AI tools do you recommend?

Our Free AI Tools page lists 12 tools with genuinely useful free tiers — including ChatGPT, Claude, Canva, and CapCut. All verified October 2026.

Is paying $20/month for AI worth it?

If you use AI daily for work, yes — the flagship models (GPT-6 Astra, Claude Opus 5.5) are meaningfully better than free tiers at reasoning, writing, and long documents. For casual use, free tiers are fine.

Are there student discounts?

Some tools offer them: Notion and GitHub Copilot have free education plans; OpenAI and Anthropic occasionally run student promotions. Check each vendor's education page — we note discounts on tool pages when available.

How should a business choose an AI plan?

Start with Team tiers ($25-30/user/month) for shared workspaces and admin controls. Pilot with 2-3 power users before rolling out company-wide, and check data-training opt-out policies for sensitive work.

Where does your data come from?

Official pricing pages, product documentation, model announcements, and aggregated user reports — all dated. We never invent features or prices; uncertain items are marked 'as of October 2026'.
